my love for coffee Thursday, September 09, 2004 mood:image courtesy of gettyimages.com i love my coffee. i have coffee every single day of the week. i can go for a max of 4 cups a day, with no effect at all on my sleeping patterns. i am on first name basis with my baristas, and they know my coffee even without my uttering a word. (hell, they even know when i'm getting married and i know when one barista is due to give birth!) after having ingested so much coffee, i'd like to think that i've developed the ability to determine good coffee from bad. don't get me wrong for i'm no coffee connoisseur. i just know what i like and what i don't like in my coffee. call me a coffee snob! worst coffee? mcdonalds coffee (not from the mccafe, but from the fastfood) it's like water run through someone's 3-day old socks. not that i've actually tasted water that was run through someone's 3-day old socks, but i'm sure you get my point. disgusting really. *gag* best coffee? capuccino from city cosmopolitan cafe in brisbane, australia! aahhh, the thought is enough to make my toes curl and my mouth water. the froth...the chocolate powder that slowly melts on the froth...the perfect blend...wow, it was heaven in a cup! my dear friend from down under marg (a fellow coffee snob) introduced me to the ccinos in cosmo, and i am forever in her debt for that introduction. i remember that we crossed the street from the centre, where she worked and i was on a biz visit, together with another very dear friend from down under, reynold. marg ordered for me (as i was feeling very touristy! and besides, their coffee is fucking expensive) and when i had my first sip...my toes just curled. yum YUM! i loved it so much that after i finished my cup (and their cups are huge!), reynold went out and bought me another. with all that caffeine, it was all i could do not to cartwheel my way back to the centre. here i am (leftmost) with some friends, having the cosmo ccinos! marg is the one in the middle, with the table post right smack in the middle of her face! here's my personal take on the coffee places in manila: starbucks? not consistent. sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not. i don't like inconsistencies with my coffee. (that was the snob talking) mocha blends? terrible. ugh. seattle's best? pretty good. coffee bean and tea leaf? too acidic for me. my tummy gurgles afterwards. otherwise, it's good too. mccafe? so-so. it's like they're trying too hard to make up for their fastfood coffee so now it's just too strong with not much flavor. san francisco coffee? the closest to the cosmo ccinos here in manila. i love their lattes! too bad they have very few franchises, especially after closing down the one in alabang town center. tsk, tsk... gloria jean's - this is where i get my daily supply. they have a franchise in the building next to our office so proximity gives them plus points. but i honestly like their coffee. pretty good! and consistent. and customer service is great (at least at the one that i go to). so, off to bed i go...hoping to dream of the cosmo ccinos! oh, and didja know that i've been drinking coffee since i was in grade 4? yep! why do you think i'm a petite bride? teehee! |
